Morning Routine

GONG~! GONG~!

I cringed under the covers, not this again. I don't mind waking up to the gong as much as it giving me a headache from the crack of dawn. I fell off the sofa and landed face down on the floor.

Alan: "Put that away. I'm awake and irritated now, stop. Normal people set an alarm and wake up to that, can't we be normal at least in the morning?"

Haruhi looked down at me, sighed once, then pointed towards the corner of the living room.

Haruhi: “I did set up an alarm clock, and look what happened to it!”

There were pieces of clock scattered all over the floor.

Alan: “Ah... So It was a clock...“

Haruhi: “You're getting me a new clock! Some nerve, the chief gracefully lends you her clock and you smash it! Ten laps around the neighborhood!”

Alan: “What? We were running laps? But it’s 5 o’clock in the morning!”

Haruhi: “Shut up and let's begin our morning jog!”

---

Neighbor: “Good morning Suzumiya-san. Oh, who’s this?”

This is the fifth time a passerby has asked that. Haruhi really is well known around this neighborhood. No matter how many people asked, her response was-

Haruhi: “This is my new slave, Alan!”

After the 6th person I gave up trying to explain because I was out of breath. Why are there so many people out so early in the morning?

We stopped at a convenience store to catch our breaths.

Alan: “I can't take anymore of this morning exercise. I didn't even eat breakfast...”

Haruhi scowled at me.

Haruhi: “If you have a weak body it'll weaken your mind as well. Exercise is perfect for keeping your mind and body strong and in shape. I feel great after every workout.”

That's probably because you're sapping the energy out of the people around you... I would've loved to buy some breakfast at the convenience store but it's not open, and I'll need all the money I can gather to replace Haruhi's clock. After the last lap we finished right in front of Haruhi's house where we started. After whining about my hunger for the whole walk back, Haruhi finally snapped and decided to make me some burnt toast. It was better than nothing so I finished all of it. I wanted to go back to sleep but that would mean waking up to Haruhi's death gong again. So I decided to change into my uniform sit around and watch Haruhi go back and forth packing her bags and doing other preparations for the day.

Haruhi: "What are you doing just sitting there help me out!" Alan: "What do you want me to do? Help change into your uniform?"

In no time we had to leave for school. I can't help it, I'm just one of those people who have a weak body. I can already feel my mind getting worn out regardless.

Walk To School

I had a hard time trying to walk next to Haruhi. No matter how fast I walk she is always ahead of me. Continuing down the sidewalk in this fashion we passed several other students that were a fair distance ahead of us. Eventually we caught up to Kyon who couldn't stop yawning.

Kyon slowed down and looked back at us. With the look he had on his face he could've been on a morning jog as well for all that I know.

Kyon: “What a surprise, maybe my watch was a bit too fast. Or could it be that you're late?.”

Then Kyon looks at me, his eyes going up and down, identifying us as though we were criminally accused.

Haruhi: “Alan, wait here for a sec I need to talk to Kyon for a few minutes. Don't try to listen in or I'll double the laps for tomorrow's jog!”

Alan: “Sure.”

Kyon and Haruhi walked in front of me, talking just out of earshot. The fact that Kyon looks like the type that wouldn't betray me kept me from trying to eavesdrop. There weren't any peculiar traits to Kyon. If I were told to draw him there wouldn't be any details to capitalize on besides his brown hair and lazy expression. Haruhi’s eyes were different when she talked to Kyon. Like through this person every one of her desires would be fulfilled. Thank goodness Kyon's still Haruhi's main underling. Takes a big load off of me. Oh well, I guess he gets the same spiel I usually get.

Haruhi: “Then I’ll leave him to you Kyon, I have to hurry up and prepare. Do as we planned okay?”

Haruhi runs off in a hurry. Kyon and I stare at each other trying to figure out who has it the hardest.

Kyon: “I’m sorry about Haruhi. She can be a burden.”

Agree with Kyon

Alan: “Tell me about it...”

Kyon sighs, and continues walking. *Kyon +0*

The Interest of Haruhi Suzumiya

Alan: “She can be very interesting to say the least.”

Kyon: "Well... sometimes, I guess." *Kyon +1*

Walk to School, continued

It was much easier talking to Kyon than Haruhi. At least he actually lets me answer.

Kyon: “You seem to be pretty close to Haruhi so we'll be seeing each other often. Tell me a little about yourself. Haruhi tells me you're from Canada.”

Alan: “Well I'm a pretty calm guy. I don't like to overwork myself.”

  • Some story changes after the end of this line, it'd be nice if Alan's identity remains hidden till bit later. So edit request until the end of this section please. (Tuna)

Kyon: "By any chance, are you an alien, time-traveler, esper or any one of the sort?"

"What?" What you crazy? non of those could exist. Although if you mentioned dimensional sliders, I met few of them yesterday. Here I thought Kyon was to only sane one of the bunch.

Realizing the dumbfounded look on my face Kyon apologized.

Kyon: "Ah, I'm sorry for the dumb question. I think Haruhi is finally getting to me."

Alan: "Haha yes, stuff like aliens, time-travelers and espers cannot exist right?"

Kyon: "Yea... of course..."

Kyon took a deep breath and muttered under his breath.

Kyon: So how are you liking Japan so far?

The truth is that I was too confused to enjoy fully what Japan had to offer. However, I would probably treated as a weirdo if I told Kyon about what happened since I arrvied at this place.

Alan: "Yea, I think they have nice benches here."

Kyon: "...?"

Did I say something weird? I only spoke the truth.

Kyon: "Uh, yea anyways we're here."

We were already at the school gates. Kyon dropped me off at the Main Office where I was to be processed.

First Class

I was assigned to Class 1-5 with a guy called Okabe as the homeroom teacher. I have no idea what class Haruhi would be in. With a total of 9 classes I positive we're not in the same. I'll be able to sleep in peace without Haruhi to bother me, but not far enough for me to be out of her reach.

I followed Okabe to the classroom. I better think up an introduction fast. What is there to say about myself? The door slid open and I could practically feel the curious looks pressing against every inch of my body.

Okabe: “Okay class, this is Alan. He is an exchange student from Canada.”

He gestured for me to begin my introductory speech.

Alan: “Hi, I’m Alan and I’m from Canada I don't do much with my spare time."

So far so good, i haven't stuttered or made a fool of myself just yet. I looked up and down the rows of my classmates. as I spoke. Oh nice, Kyon's in this class.

I was about to continue when I saw the person sitting behind Kyon.

Okabe: "Alan? Are you alright there?"

Okabe asked as he waved a hand in front of me to check if I was still awake. I could feel cold sweat running down my face now. I mustered up all my strength to squeeze out the last part of my introduction

Alan: “I...I hope to...get along with you all..."

Okabe: “Ok... Alan, you can go sit beside Suzumiya there.”

I tried my best to walk in a straight line to sit next to the demon that was supposed to be a safe distance away in another class.

---

I suppose classes are pretty much the same universally. You feel sleepy with every lesson and finally shut down when you lose the will to shovel any more of these stupid lectures in your ears.

Pretty soon my options for passing time in class had only left me with the choice to close my eyes and take a snooze. The Japanese History teacher's voice was more soothing than any lullaby I've ever heard. I'm an elite at sleeping in class if I do say so myself.

I’m lying down on a sunny hill, with nothing else but a bottle of milk in my hand, cool grass serving as the perfect mattress. Hmmmm....

Shinjin vs Fuuko

Then suddenly my view of the clouds were overlapped by a face.

Alan: “Who gave you permission to come into my dream?”

Fuuko: “Fuuko is only here on business.”

She’s wearing a North High uniform.

Alan: "Oh no, don’t tell me you’re in this school too."

Fuuko again looks at me as if I’m her underling. Who does this girl think she is? I’m way taller than her.

Fuuko: “Fuuko doesn’t like this uniform at all, Fuuko’s old school uniform was better.”

Well I do have to agree.... I hate our male uniform as well.

Alan: “How’d you get in here? My dreams I mean.”

Fuuko: “That’s a stupid question Alan-san. Dimension travel includes going into dreams as well. Besides, Fuuko wouldn’t enter this place under normal circumstances.”

Fuuko: "What's worse is that Fuuko is missing her art class because of this."

Alan: “Oh, is that so? Well that’s too bad, please leave, you’re disturbing my sleep.”

Fuuko: “Fuuko cannot leave just yet.”

Alan: “Why not?”

Fuuko: “Dimensional quakes are going to happen here.”

Alan: “What? In my dream?”

Fuuko: “This isn't only Alan-san's dream. Every person's consciousness arrives in this dimension when they dream.”

Alan: "Ah, so there's one world where all sleeping people come to. Got it."

Alan: "But there must be many other people in the school that are taking a nap right now. Why aren't they here?"

Fuuko: "You normally don't see other people's consciousness in this world. Fuuko has only made herself visible for Alan-kun."

Alan: "Why me?"

Fuuko hesitates for a moment.

Fuuko: "Because, Alan-kun is so stupid that he might get hurt when the quake hits."

Was she worried about me? But the way she put it kind of makes me angry.

Alan: “So what happens when these... ‘Dimensional quakes’ occur?”

Fuuko: “First the ground starts shaking violently..."

Just as she finishes that sentence, the whole world starts to shake. What was once a nice meadow is now a myriad of fissures. Why is this happening to my dream? Then the ground stops shaking.

Alan: “Is this it?”

Fuuko's gaze was fixed on one particularly large fissure in front of us.

Fuuko: “Fuuko can only wish. The real work comes after. Dimension quakes are open up a gap linking various stories in fictional realm. Demons usually come through this gap.”

Ah, those demons that Kanata-san mentioned yesterday. Wait, those things are going to appear here?

Alan: “That's great! Now how do I wake up?”

Fuuko: “Fuuko wouldn't know, you are asking weird questions.”

If you're in here that means you're asleep somewhere yourself. Doesn't that mean you can leave either?

Few minutes passed in silence without nothing happening.

---

Alan: “Hey, how long do we wait?”

Fuuko: “Until the gap closes.”

Fuuko was still staring at that the hole in the ground.

Alan: “How long does it take for them to close?”

Fuuko: “30 minutes is the most Fuuko has waited so far..”

Alan: “Looks like nobody's home. We should be spending this time to figure out how an exit. Is is more boring than class.”

Fuuko suddenly jumped up and covered my mouth with her hand which was surprisingly big enough to do so.

Alan: “Mmmph what are you doing?”

Fuuko: “What you just said was bad luck.”

Alan: “Ehh?”

Fuuko: “Saying things like that will attract the demons!”

Just as Fuuko finished speaking, bright orb of light started to emerge from the fissure.

Alan: “What's that supposed to be? Is that a demon? This hole's obviously out of order!”

Fuuko: “That's a doppelganger, one of the many types of demons.”

Alan: “Doppelgangers? Aren't they those things that copy appearances?”

Fuuko: “Alan is quite well informed. Fuuko changed her impression of you by 0.001 percent.”

Aright! Fuuko points get! Wait 0.001 percent? If you calculate with her size I guess that's about 50% to her.

Alan: “Anyways, so what does this thing copy?”

Fuuko: “Alan should stop asking weird questions Fuuko does not know the answers to. Even Fuko cannot guess what it would be. We are in Suzumiya-san's story, so it’s usually a manifestation of Suzumiya-san’s power.”

Again, soon as Fuko finished speaking, the light transformed into a huge blue giant. It looks around, and spots us. The giant starts walking this way. Is this another bad luck thing that Fuuko mentioned? But what does this giant have to do with Haruhi?

Fuuko: “So it’s just those blue giants today. Fuuko is glad that they don’t look like starfishes again.”

Fuuko then steps up to confront the giant. Such timing, are you sure this isn’t all your doing? I grab and stop her from going any further.

Alan: “As much as it pains me to let this opportunity go. I think it’s better for you to get out of this dream as fast as you can, and wake up back in the real world.”

Fuuko: “Alan-san, just leave it to Fuuko.”

“You are going to get yourself killed!”

Suddenly, a strange transparent hologram-like images appeared in front of me. I stared at the one in the right corner. It was labeled HP. There were many other labels I did not understand.

Alan: “What is this? How is this going to help at all against that?”

When I stared at the giant, more holograms appeared. It read,'Doppelganger- level.1'

Alan: “Fuuko, your holograms lie. That thing can't be level 1.”

Fuuko: “HUD that sliders use don't lie.”

I stared at Fuuko to see if this thing worked for her as well. 'Fuuko Ibuki- level.5' What? Fuuko has higher level than that giant? This thing is broken. I try to wave off the holograms. However, they reappeared few moments later. This time it read. 'Alan - level.0'. I had a feeling that this HUD thing did not like me at all.

Fuuko: “Well then please stay out of Fuuko's way. Although this doppelganger is only level one, it's too much for you to handle.”

Fuuko holds up her wooden carvings, as though they were ninja stars. Wait, maybe they are ninja stars. Then Fuuko did the most unexpected thing - she threw one at the giant’s head. What would a little wooden carving do to a giant? As soon as the star made contact with the giant, it pierced the giant’s membrane and it looks like it had some effect. Didn't seem like so because it was like throwing a stick in some very thick mud. The HP bar that indicated the giant's health just went down by half. What's going on? I just don’t know anymore… The giant backed off and raised its arm to smash down on Fuuko.

Alan: “Fuuko! Watch out!”

It was too late; well at least, I’ll be able to enjoy my dreams in peace now. However, the giant stopped mid-swing, then instead of smashing Fuuko, it looked towards me. Since this is a dream, theoretically it wouldn’t hurt if it hit me anyway. On second thought, I don't want to die, even in my dreams.

Fuuko: “Ah, watch out!”

I closed my eyes and prepared to be crushed. As predicted I didn’t feel any pain. I should be a sheet of paper by now. I opened my eyes to check only to find myself bathed in blue light. After of few seconds of me looking around confused at the light, it dissipated. I turned to the giant to see that it had lost an arm. Did Fuko do that? I looked at the giant’s head. The star that Fuko threw was still there. The point where it had penetrated started to crack, and as usual the crack ran all the way around the giant, with a blinding white light leaking out of the cracks I might add. Then it shattered and disintegrated into nothingness.

Alan: “What did you just do?”

Fuuko: “Fuko calls it 'Legendary Hitode Heat'. Cool name isn’t it?”

Nope

Fuuko: “Fuuko just saw the weirdest thing. It was as if the doppelganger could not touch Alan-kun. Soon as it made contact with Alan-kun, its arm started to melt away. What move did you use?”

Alan: “I used retreat, but I guess it still needs work. I actually have no idea what happened to the arm.”

Fuuko: “It is a very strange phenomenon. Fuuko will ask Izumi-san later. Fuuko’s job is done; enjoy your dream then.”

I stare at Fuuko as she fades away into thin air...

I looked at my destroyed surroundings, then down at the ruined meadow…

I thought it was annoying when people bother me outside my sleep…

Taniguchi and Kunikida

I wake up feeling rather disturbed. Coincidentally, the class bell rings just as I wake up. I catch a glimpse of Haruhi dashing off soon as the bell rings, and Kyon seems to have developed a particular interest in the sky today. Before I can get back so sleep someone taps me on my shoulder.

Alan: “Hm?”

Taniguchi: “Yo, Welcome to North High! I'm Taniguchi.”

Loud person.

Kunikida: “Hey, nice to meet you. I’m Kunikida.”

More polite, I like you Kunikida.

Taniguchi: “Hey, there are many elite high schools around this area. Why’d you get stuck transferring this one?”

Well, that’s a long story my friend. Sadly it’s not one I can tell you. I better come up with a good excuse.

Alan: “Since...It was closer to my house. I'm a lazy guy you see. Besides the lack or air conditioning I'm finding my new school experience very pleasant.”

Taniguchi: “So... is it any better at your old school in Canada? Are there more hot girls?”

I knew that question was coming at me. I'll humor him.

Alan: "Yeah, Plenty."

I could've sworn I heard Kyon snorting.

Kunikida: “How's school like in Canada? Is it very different from school in Japan?”

Bless you Kunikida, you seem like one of the few sane people I've met since I've been here. I'd love to answer that question.

Alan: “It's not very different really, although I didn't wear school uniforms in Canada like here in Japan.”

Kunikida: "Is that so?"

Taniguchi: "Speaking of hot girls, have you met anyone named Asakura Ryoko?"

Taniguchi asks yet another question I don't have the ability to answer correctly. You're extremely popular Asakura-san, to be honest, I'm wanting to get to meet you more and more. I can sense curious ears; the people around us are listening to us intently.

Kyon: “Tell me Taniguchi, if I asked you if you knew a random girl called Makiko from Hokkaido, what would you answer?”

Kyon joined our conversation.

Taniguchi seemed to think for a moment, and then answers.

Taniguchi: “I don’t know anyone named Makiko, what’s your point?”

You know him better than I do Kyon, I don't know where his "Insert Logic Here" slot is.

Kyon: “Canada, is a large country. Many millions live there. There is an extremely slim to zilch chance, that Alan has met one person that you just happened to name.”

But attack from behind!

Haruhi: "Well we won't know if we take a chance will we!? All we can do is take that slim chance and hope for the best"

Suzumiya Haruhi. No matter how well you know this person, she has no opening to insert any logic... This is has officially turned into a losing 2 on 2 battle for logic.

Taniguchi: “Well it's just about time for class, I have to go now guys. I'll get infected with Suzumiya.”

Taniguchi retreats back to his seat. Maybe we might have something in common after all...

Kunikida: “Nice to have met you Alan-san.”

You too, Kunikida. Shame we couldn't talk a bit more...

Kunikida walks back to his seat too. Haruhi stares at me with a pitiful look, then sits down in her seat as well. It's the second period now.

Feeling that I haven't had enough conversation, I start talking to myself.

Alan: "Well, I guess I should head back to my desk too"

But the sudden revelation struck me. NO NO NO! This can't be happening! It's only my first day! Go easy on me school, this is just too much to handle!!!

Math.

Lunchbreak

There are only two things I'm absolutely positive I'll wake up to, Haruhi's gong and the bell to the end of class. Rubbing my eyes while my vision adjusted to the lighting of the room. It's probably a good idea to explore my new school and get a good idea of the layout. All of the floors are built the same way I'll only need to look around only one. If that's the case then it wouldn't take much time to do so. All the reason to get started now.

Stay in Class

I decided to observe my new class more closely.

All of the floors are built the same way I'll only need to look around only one. If that's the case then it wouldn't take much time to do so. Since most of my stamina for the day had all been blown on the morning jog Haruhi had put me to, it's a good idea to charge back up as soon as possible.

Before any more of my drowsiness escapes I bend forward on to the desk. Just then the back collar of my blazer was yanked with full force and I was squinting at an irritated Haruhi.

Haruhi: “Hmm.”

Haruhi: “Don't you ever stop sleeping? What would people think of the SOS Brigade when they see you sleeping constantly on the first day?”

What would people think of me when they learn I joined before the first day?

Haruhi: “It's time I lay down some of the Brigade rules!”

Alan: “Go for it.”

Haruhi: “That the Brigade leader’s orders are absolute! You have to do whatever I command you to do! You are to come to the Literature Club room right after school!”

Alan: “What if I don't want to?”

Haruhi: “Insolence! Do you realize how many Brigade rules you’ve broken right now?”

Alan: “One...”

I resumed my napping position.

Haruhi: “Sigh, words have no use... In the short time I’ve known you, I regret not using this tactic sooner.”

Haruhi reached into her bag and pulled it out and held it right in front of my eyes. Strawberry milk...

Haruhi: “Now where must you be after school?”

Alan: “Literature clubroom.”

Haruhi: “Will you be doing anything else before hand?”

Alan: “No way, I'll come as soon as the last bell rings. So give it.”

Haruhi: “I don't think so. You'll have to come and get it in the clubroom”

She ran out the class and out of sight. I have no idea where this clubroom is. I spent the rest of my lunch scoping out the floor. The literature clubroom wasn't in this part of the building...

Wander Around

Mapping out the surroundings while trying hard not to get lost. I maneuvered through the crowds of people that were staring at the new transfer student with interest. I eventually ended up outside. The sudden heat wave caught me off guard leaving me desperately searching for a shelter.

“…”

A large tree only a few meters away. Casting it's wonderful shade over a patch of neatly mowed soft grass. It's as though someone had knew that I was coming and laid out a futon just in case.

I decided that finding the literature clubroom was only second to the current emergency of melting into a puddle. But should I risk the chance of missing my next class for some (well-deserved) sleep?

Nap under Tree

Of Course!

Alan: “Nema~su!”

Haruhi: “Alan~! Wake up! There’s a fire!!”

Alan: “What?!"

I look around to see nothing except a smirking Haruhi. Thank goodness, no gong.

Alan: “Why you…”

Haruhi: “You wouldn’t wake up no matter how many times I kicked you; you’re a really deep sleeper.” (Frown)

Now that I think about it I am severely bruised around my leg area.

Haruhi: “Classes are going to start, we should hurry.”(Normal)

Alan: “…Ahh, what a bother... What class is it?”

Haruhi: “English! Hmph! You of all people shouldn’t have any problem with it.”(Frown then normal)

Alan: "No I shouldn't, good luck Haruhi."

Haruhi: “I know you're going to sleep through the whole class. You better not forget about the clubroom.”

Alan: “Is it that important?.”

Haruhi: “Don’t ask, it’s a surprise!” (Smile and wink)

Alan: “…”

Haruhi: “Remember, no milk if you don’t show up. Oh, and you’ll be kicked out of my house!” (Sunny smile)

Haruhi then runs off.

---

That was a rather short lunch break, I muse as I return to my seat.

Hmm... English class is about to begin.

Go Back to Class

I briefly thought through the consequences of skipping class to sleep. My reputation could be close to being broken beyond repair, I'll be labeled as a delinquent, not to mention the horrible things Haruhi would do to me for "Disgracing the Brigade". After shaking those awful images out of my mind I soon passed by a vending machine.

Alan: “Yes! Strawberry Milk!”

I yelled triumphantly. A few upperclassmen girls passing by giggled. It would be best if I keep to myself.

Feeling too embarrassed to express in words I hastily took out some change and proceeded to get the milk and leave as fast as possible. Right then Haruhi came rushing out of the entrance and right past the machine I was standing in front of. I just dodged a bullet. Being just outside Haruhi's extremely fatal range of vision I ran into the building before she checked behind her and peeked out the slightly open window next to the entrance.

She looked around and straightened out her uniform. Then she walked up to the two upperclassmen girls and politely asked.

Haruhi: “...went inside the building? Thanks!”

She bowed and ran off. As soon as the upperclassmen turned away from Haruhi, she ran back to the entrance. Her sudden movement made me almost jump and yell.

Running like the wind I dodged the bystanders in the hallway. Trying to accomplish the impossible task of out running Haruhi. It was only a matter of time before I would crash into an extremely beautiful girl and land on her in a position with one hand on the ground holding myself up and the other on, well...you know.

“Pwah!” *CRASH*

All which happened exactly as planned. One thing's for sure. I'm really in Japan.

Auburn hair, a light voice, and that chest…99% Strawberry milk? No, no, no... I shouldn't...

I quickly got off Asahina.

Mikuru(?): "Oh no, I'm so sorry. This wasn't supposed to happen. I better get going."

Alan: “No I'm not hurt anywhere. Why are you apologizing? I was the one running.”

I was again talking to myself.

The person I just knocked down jumped back up and quickly ran off. Something was off... She wasn't wearing a school uniform, and looked more like a teacher. I flexed my fingers. I'm pretty sure that was Asahina-san...

And just then another Asahina-san came up from behind.

Mikuru: “Alan-san!”

Is she Asahina? Auburn hair, light voice, 99% Straw- yes it is.

Alan: “Hey there Asahina-san.”

What the hell's happening?

Mikuru: “You can just call me Mikuru-chan.”

Mikuru: “Suzumiya-san said you liked milk, so…”

It's not polite to drool in front of a lady Alan.

Alan: "Thanks a dozen Mikuru-chan! This means more than you think!"

Mikuru: “Y-you're Welcome!”

Haruhi hasn't found me yet. If there's someone up there, he still loves me... *MIKURU +1*

As we slowly walked down the hall, I was drinking the milk that Mikuru got for me and not for you (haha). It was silent, but not unexpected, everything I want.

Alan,Mikuru: “I wanted to ask-!”

We both said spontaneously, and she turned beet red. Cliche achievement unlocked? Cute!

Mikuru: “Please, go ahead…”

She said quietly, damn.. she beat me to it. Oh well as you wish.

Alan: “Isn't it exhausting to be with Haruhi? Especially someone like yourself, who Haruhi has special things planned out for.”

Mikuru: “S-suzumiya-san isn’t so bad. Except… b-bunny suit… wah~!” Mikuru suddenly broke down.

Encourage Mikuru

Alan: “If she tries anything like making you wear exposing outfits (against your will I might add) or harasses you in any way. I'll be there to stop that idiot (from going 'too' far)."

Mikuru: “…thank you, Alan-kun. Someone else told me the same thing…”

Yes, I am awesome! *Mikuru +1*

Tell Mikuru to Stand Up for Herself

Mikuru looks like she's in quite a predicament. I guess that old saying on "tough love" would be applicable here.

Alan: “Mikuru-chan! You have to tell Haruhi when enough is enough. If you don't discipline her early she'll become an idiot that everyone avoids. It'll be easier for you and her to do so.”

Mikuru: “Sure... I'll try...”

Oh yeah, she's pretty much powerless... I better say something quick.

Alan: "I'll try to help you out whenever I can. If it becomes too much."

Go Back to Class, part 2

She looks a bit cheerful now.

Mikuru: “I better get going. Ah yes, Suzumiya-san told me to tell you...”

Looks like she forgot... Cute...

Alan: “Something about going to the literature club room, and milk, lots of milk…”

Lots of milk? It's a trap! She'll tie me up as soon as I take a step into the clubroom anyway, but milk...

Mikuru started back to her classroom.

Alan: “Mikuru-chan! Do you have a sister?”

Mikuru stood there confused.

Mikuru: “I don’t have a sister. Alan-kun, you better go back to your classroom before you're late for your next class.”

Wha?

But Mikuru had already went off an opposite direction, leaving me in front of my class. I sat at my desk and started sleeping right after the teacher came in.

Dodgeball

The sound of a bell marks the end of the English class.

Alan: “*Yawn~*… That was a good nap.”

Kyon: “I don’t know how you do it. Normal people don’t sleep so much.”

Alan: “Some people are special that way. And I like sleeping anyway; its good for you."

Kyon: “I see… but you won’t be able to sleep in the next class.”

Alan: “Why not?”

Kyon: “It’s Gym class.”

Alan: “Not a problem! There hasn’t been a class that I haven’t been able to sleep through.”

Gym class begins. We're playing dodgeball.

  • Scene change, forest----

Kyon: “You’re not seriously sleeping standing up?”

I hear someone’s voice; am I dreaming again? All around me are trees… I must be in a forest. Shafts of sunlight lance down between the canopy of leaves, and I’m just starting to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere when I see a flock of strange-looking birds.

Kyon: “Watch out!”

The birds notice me staring at them and start flying straight towards me.

Alan: !!!

I managed to dodge all of the vicious pecks. Except one.

Alan: “Oh shi-!”

My face explodes in a fiery blossom of pain, and I blink my eyes to see that the world has changed. I’m in a school field now, on my back and blinking tears from my eyes.

Kyon: “I’ve heard of sleep walking, but how did you manage to dodge all those balls while sleeping? Were you really sleeping?”

Alan: “Wow. So I was sleeping after all.”

I see Haruhi grinning impishly on the other side.

Haruhi: “Ha! That leaves only you Kyon.”

I look around; since I was just hit, I’m out. Apparently only Haruhi and Kyon were left.

Haruhi: “So it’s a showdown between us huh? No giving up Kyon! I want to see you try your best before you lose.”

Kyon: “Lose? Who says I’m going to lose?”

Haruhi: “Haha, I like that attitude! Think fast!”

Haruhi runs forward and with a yell, launches a dodgeball at Kyon like Moses hurling the Ten Commandments off the mountain.

Kyon: “Mph!”

Kyon somehow managed to dodge the attack.

Kyon: “Now you have no more weapons-“

Another dodgeball slammed into Kyon’s face like one of Zeus’ thunderbolts and threw him onto his back.

Kyon: “Ugh… where were you even hiding that?” *groan*

Haruhi: “I’m disappointed Kyon, I was hoping you’d put up more of a fight.”

Haruhi’s gaze turns towards me.

Haruhi: “And you! It’s okay to sleep in other classes, but not in this class! I want you to try your best in gym classes! It’s a great chance to show off how capable the SOS brigade is!”

Alan: “Never.”

Haruhi: “... Want me to throw out all the milk in the house?"

Alan: "You wouldn't!"

Haruhi: "Watch me."

Alan: “I hear and I obey.”

Kyon: “Don’t agree with her so easily!”

Haruhi: “Alan, remember, ‘kay? Come to the literature club room after school!”

Alan: “… Fine, I’ll come, but if you’re planning anything mischievous, I’ll leave right away.”

Haruhi: “Well that’s settled then! Let’s go change, everyone else is already gone.”

After School

It's almost the end of school.

I still lay face flat on my desk, checking the time every few seconds, waiting for the final bell to ring, listening to Haruhi and Kyon converse.

Haruhi is overly energetic, while Kyon replies in "yeah" and "really"s. As I lay hunched over my desk, just within ear shot of their conversation, I can’t help but smirking slightly at how they contradict each other.

Haruhi: "Do you know what day it is?"

Kyon: "Your birthday?"

Haruhi: "No!"

Kyon: "Asahina-san's birthday."

Haruhi: "No―pe!"

Kyon: "Koizumi's or Nagato's-."

Haruhi: "How do should I know when their birthdays are?"

Kyon: "If you ask me, my birthday's on......"

Haruhi: "I don't care! You really don't know how important today is?"

I forget when my birthday was, curse this amnesia ...

Haruhi: "Tell me, what's the date today?"

Kyon: "July 7th...Uhh...Tanabata?

Haruhi: "Of course it is! Every Japanese person knows when it is!"

Yes, Haruhi did mention something about Tanabata or whatever last night didn’t she?

Being a foreigner I have no idea what this ‘Tanabata’ is about. But I guess the date today has some significance if it gets Haruhi's attention.

July 7th, seventh day in the seventh month...

I bet they also have festivals for January 1st, February 2nd, and March 3rd...January 1st might have a few things going on...

Kyon: “Tanabata actually originates from China. And according to the Lunar Calendar, it's actually next month."

Nice one Kyon, I'd like to see that work for once.

Haruhi: "Oh please, July and August are about the same, they're both in summer anyway. Besides who'd be stupid enough to pass such a great chance for a festival."

As expected Haruhi completely overrules logic.

Summer...July...Festival...Food? I like food...

Kyon: "Even if we do skip this one event, there will be plenty more opportunities for you to spin up something up. I'd rather be stupid enough to skip than stupid enough to go..."

Haruhi: "It'll be more fun if we do it together. I decided we're gonna organize something big for Tanabata every year from this moment on."

Kyon: "Don't decide things on your own."

Haruhi: “Oh and for that special event, make sure you remind him after class.”

I can tell Haruhi had pointed in my direction, it felt as if someone poked me.

Kyon: “Don’t worry about it after carrying all that weight myself; I wouldn't want all that work to go to waste.”

Are you selling me out? This is war...

All the horrible instruments of torture come into mind. Yup, I’m risking my life for another bottle of milk, life isn’t really worth much these days.

The moment the bell rang Haruhi rushed out of the classroom.

Haruhi: "Wait for me in the club room! Don't go home!"

I opened my eyes, and looked up.

Kyon: “Had a nice sleep?”

Alan: “You would know.”

I yawn and take a look around the classroom. I notice several female students at the front of the room staring at me. They looked away as our eyes met, quickly they resume packing their bags. They all had slightly amused expressions. Did I drool?

Kyon: “It's your first day in school and you're already making a name of yourself counting sheep in class like that.”

Alan: “Who cares what the others think?... I kinda already know all this anyway.”

Kyon: “You seem too relaxed.”

Alan: “Relaxation can lengthen the lifespan”

Kyon seemed to ponder at my reasoning for a moment then disregarded it.

Kyon: “You head on to the clubroom first. I have to talk to Okabe-Sensei.”

Tsuruya's scene

"Okay, let’s get this over with."

I walk out of the classroom, wishing with all my heart that a distraction would soon occupy me from getting to the clubroom.

Where’s the literature club room…? Hope they keep some food in the clubroom. Must have nourishment...

My wish is suddenly granted when...

Tsuruya: “Watch out!”

I suddenly feel an aura extremely similar to Haruhi's. As usual I don’t (won't) have enough time to turn around.

CRASH

SPLAT

I opened my eyes to find myself in be-noodled clothes.

Tsuruya: “Ha ha sorry there, I was bit in a hurry.”

I looked up from my shirt, covered with fried noodles to see an upperclassman girl with peculiar green hair.

Tsuruya: “Here, Ha ha I messed up big time…” Still not showing any hint of remorse whatsoever. She takes out an apologetic handkerchief and hands it over to me.

No… she doesn’t look sorry at all, she’s finding this all humorous.

Alan: “You know, you could at least act a little sorry than burst out laughing.”

Tsuruya: “I can’t help it nyoro~ Just look at you, covered in noodles. Ha ha ha.”

I find myself for the next few moments staring at an uncontrollably laughing, green haired, upperclassman. Only a few minutes pass until she's ready enough to continue. With what? I have no idea.

Tsuruya: "Let’s introduce ourselves properly. My name is Tsuruya.”

Alan: “Alan.”

Tsuruya: “What’s with the dull answer? Hmm you don’t look very happy to see me.”

Alan: “After soiling my shirt, being deprived of sleep, and starving to the point where I wouldn't mind licking those noodles off the floor I can't blame myself if I say that this isn't the best day I've had...”

Tsuruya-san looks upset.

Tsuruya: “So you don’t like me… but you like my fried noodles?”

Alan: “At the moment, Yes.”

Tsuruya-san suddenly bursts out laughing, making me jump, resulting in the remainder of the noodles on my shirt to fall off.

Tsuruya: “Hahaha, you're mean Alan-san. I guess I deserve it since I’ve troubled Alan-san. Well, If you like my noodles, I can make you some later as an apology, but I'm busy right now delivering noodles to Haru-nyan."

Alan: “Haru-nyan?”

Tsuruya: “Suzumiya-san! Surely if you go to this school you’ve heard of her.”

Alan: “Haruhi? So you were heading to the literature club room?”

Tsuruya: “That’s right, but I think I’ll be late. Sigh… I’ll have to remake these noodles.”

Tsuruya: “So, why is Alan-san around this part of the school? Club activities?

Alan: “Well… Suzumiya-sama told me to be at the clubroom. But I have no idea where it might be.”

Tsuruya: “Hahaha, Alan-kun has horrible eyes. Don’t you see that door right there? That’s the SOS-Brigade Club room!”

Tsuruya: “So you were the new member Haru-nyan was talking about! That Haru-nyan sure has strange taste in people! Well, I have to go and make more noodles! Since you are going to be in here. I’ll bring some for Alan Kun as well! See ya Nyoro~n”

Tsuruya san disappears around the corner.

Yes… That's the Literature Clubroom sign that is crossed out, with "SOS Brigade" written over. This is no doubt Haruhi’s lair.

Clubroom

“Welcome to the brigade!”

I stood there blinking for a few seconds. My expression as empty as I can remember it being...

Haruhi: “What's with the surprised face? As the leader, I had to prepare the necessary welcome party for the new brigade member.”

Seriously? I didn’t expect this from Haruhi of all people.

Haruhi lunged forward, grabbed me by the collar, and threw me onto an empty chair.

Mikuru: “Ah Alan-kun, would you like some tea?” Mikuru-chan smiled sweetly at me.

Screw the milk, I'm drinking tea today.

Haruhi: “I’ve gone through a lot of trouble to gather all this food for you, although Tsuruya-san’s fried noodles are late. You'd better finish all of it.”

While Haruhi was being herself, Kyon was grimacing as if he wanted to say. “I was the one who gathered all the food.”

Haruhi: “I’ve introduced everyone yesterday right? So, let’s get on with the party!” Haruhi declared exuberantly.

I teared up as I thought...

This is the best...

...cup of tea I've ever had...........

Tanabata Explanation

Party was long since past. After the festive decorations were put away, I got to have a real look at the clubroom.

Haruhi ran out a while ago not saying where she was going. Because no one else was surprised by this abnormal behavior, I assumed that this happened regularly.

While enjoying the tea that Asahina-san brewed, I was locked in a battle of chess battle with Koizumi. Perhaps, before I lost my memories, I knew how to play chess. Or maybe I didn’t know from the start. Either way, I can honestly say this is one of the better ways to pass time.

Without the tyrant Haruhi it can be extremely peaceful, leaving us with an unfamiliar sensation.

Kyon, who was studying for his English exam started a conversation with Koizumi.

Kyon: “You sure look relaxed even though the exams are coming up.”

Koizumi: “Not exactly relaxed. One cannot study without resting every once in a while. Over working is never a good thing”

Kyon: “No thanks, if I rest now I'll just forget everything I've spent all my time memorizing.”

Koizumi: “Haha I’m pretty sure Alan-kun here can help with those English words.”

Alan: “I’m not much of a teacher… but judging by the stuff I’ve seen during today’s English class, I don’t think help is necessary. All you guys are doing is brute memorization; anyone should be able to do that.”

Kyon: “Easy for you to say…”

Kyon turned his gaze towards Asahina-san, who was dressed in a maid costume and sitting opposite of him, working out her math problems.

Haruhi: "Ya-ho!"

The door opened with a crash, and it seems that all the madness in the world manifested in this room in the form of a high school girl.

Haruhi: "Sorry, sorry, I'm late."

I suddenly want to take back what I said. I didn’t miss Haruhi’s noisiness at all. Haruhi appeared with a scene, carrying a bamboo plant.

Kyon: “Where did you get that, and what are you planning to with it?”

Haruhi puffed her chest and replied,

Haruhi: "Why, it's for hanging wishes, of course."

Kyon: “Here we go again.”

Haruhi: "Nothing really, since I haven't hung wishes for a long time, so we might as well do now, wouldn't be Tanabata without it!"

I’m confused, so you hang wishes on a bamboo tree? Tanabata? Who the hell is Tanabata?

Kyon: "I'll ask you again, where'd you get this?"

Haruhi: "The bamboo forest at the back of the school."

Kyon: “If I remember correctly, that's private property, you bamboo thief.”

Haruhi: "Arrest me... It doesn't matter if I just took one. These mosquito bites are killing me, Mikuru-chan can you help rub some itch cream on my back?

Mikuru: "Yes, right away!"

Asahina-san walked in small steps carrying a first aid kit, she looked just like a nurse trainee, in a maid outfit. She took out the ointment, then placed her hand into the collar of the sailor uniform and onto Haruhi's back. Haruhi bent forward as Asahina applied the cream

Haruhi: "Nope not there, bit to the right, feel for the bumps, yeah right there."

Haruhi sighed in relief, Mikuru having a hard time finding the bites.

As soon as it seemed that Mikuru had applied cream on all the necessary areas Haruhi got up.

She placed the bamboo shoot next to the window, and Whipped out a few sheets of colored paper.

Haruhi: "Now let's write down our wishes!"

Apparently my stupid expression did the job, Koizumi spoke up.

Koizumi: “Perhaps it would be appropriate to explain to Alan-san about Tanabata.”

Haruhi: “Ah, good idea.”

Haruhi: "Listen up Alan I'm only going explain once."

  • Explain

Haruhi: “Understand?”

Alan: “Somewhat… But-“

Haruhi: “Ok then let’s write down our wishes!”

I wanted ask if wishes really come true. Of course, she’s too eager to get this wish writing going. I know wishes probably aren't real but in my cause it'd be silly to say things like that don't.

Of course they won’t come true, but it really gets you hoping it would. This is a lot easier than folding a thousand cranes as they do here.

Haruhi: "But there are conditions."

Kyon: “What conditions?”

Haruhi: "Let me explain. There's no way the wishes can travel faster than the speed of light, according to the Special Theory of Relativity."

Haruhi took out a note cue from her skirt pocket and said loudly while reading along it.

At least she was prepared for this, I was just getting ready to listen to Koizumi explain.

Haruhi: "From the earth, it takes twenty-five light years to get to Vegas and sixteen to get to Altair. Which means it would take twenty-five and sixteen years to send a message to each of those stars."

I honestly don't care...

Haruhi: "So don't write down any wish like 'I wish to have a hunk of a boyfriend by next Christmas!' is not going to work, because the wish won't be granted on time!"

Kyon: "Hang on, if it takes that long for the wish to reach there, wouldn't it take just as long for it to come back? Doesn't that mean we have to wait twice as much for our wishes to come true instead?"

I see that’s why people never get their wishes granted. They die before their wishes are granted. Well I guess I can ask to be brought back to life.

Haruhi: “Now, does everyone understand what I'm saying? There are two types of Tanzakus, one for Vega, and the other for Altair. So please write down what you would wish for in twenty-five years and sixteen years' time." So we all set down to write down our wishes.

Do I know what I would want some twenty years later? Since Haruhi is coordinating this, I guess I can make up anything as my wish.

Mine: “For it to be raining Strawberry Milk” “a free photo and picture frame of my expression when it happens”

I took a look around at everyone else’s wishes.

Asahina-san Tanzakus: "I wish my sewing would improve" "I wish my cooking would improve"

Why not? You've got 25 years.

Nagato’s Tanzakus: "Harmony" "Reformation"

So it isn't books?

Koizumi’s Tanzakus "World peace" "I wish for my family to prosper".

Simple and easy

Kyon’s Tanzakus: "Give me money" "Give me a large house with a garden where I can give my dog a bath"

Haruhi: You're such a Philistine

Haruhi’s Tanzakus: "I wish for the world to revolve around me" "I wish the earth would rotate in the other direction"

Alan: ...

I had to stifle an incoming "ROFL" moment.

Kyon: Beats the hell out of yours.

Then Haruhi took a look at mine and stared at me with unsatisfactory expression.

Haruhi: “Milk?”

Alan: “For the heck of it, read the second one”

Haruhi: “You aren’t serious about this at all aren’t you?”

Alan: “It'll be hilarious, what about yours?”

Haruhi: “Well, fair enough. Now everyone, make sure you remember the wishes that you've just written!

I'd like to forget and be surprised later or it'll make the photo meaningless

Mikuru: “Oh......sure, of course.”

Asahina-san nodded her head with a serious expression as I got back to my own seat.

Nagato had returned to her hardcore reading.

Haruhi stuck the long bamboo shoot out of the window and then put it in a stable. She then pulled a chair besides the window and sat on it. She placed her elbow on the window frame and looked up at the sky. The her face looked a little bit melancholic, as though wondering about what to do next.

She’s probably the sort of person whose mood swings very rapidly, and she was yelling so excitedly a while ago.

I resumed my Chess game with Koizumi. Where'd my queen go?

Haruhi: "......Sixteen years huh? That's a long time."

I heard Haruhi mutter under her breath behind me.

Nagato was silently reading her foreign language love novel, while Kyon was busy trying to memorize English translations. All this time, Haruhi was sitting by the window and looking up at the sky. She's actually quite cute if she shuts up and stays quiet. Ugh…

For the first time I’ve seen her, Haruhi looked depressed, sighing deeply every so often … Well I guess Haruhi has moments like this from time to time. I turned around to focus my attention on my hopeless chess game.

Haruhi: "Let's call it a day.”

Haruhi said and quickly picked her bag and left the room.

Alan: “…”

After few moments, Haruhi entered the room again.

Haruhi: “Aren’t you coming? I doubt you can find your way back all on your own.”

Oh that’s right; I was staying in her house.

Alan: “Okay, see you all tomorrow then.”

I grabbed my bag and followed Haruhi out the door.

(scene fade to hallway)

Haruhi only gave me a gesture to follow, and then she walked ahead. Even I would know it's probably not a good idea to start talking to her.

Walk Back to Home

This place is near Kanata-san’s house.

Haruhi suddenly stops.

Alan: ?

Haruhi: By the way, do you have any money?

Alan: Why do you ask that all of a sudden? Of course I don’t have anything.

Haruhi: Well, you better start packing cause you are not going to stay in my house as a freeloader.

Alan: You mean you’re going to charge me for staying?

Haruhi: Of course!

Alan: But…

Haruhi: Anyways, if you can’t pay up right now, you should get a job.

Aren't I already a maid, cleaning up her house?

Haruhi: Here! Let’s go find you are part time job right now!

She yanks my collar and starts to drag me in an opposite direction from the subway station. No!...

Alan: It’s late already, see? The sun is going to set soon. Maybe we should look for one tomorrow.

Haruhi: There’s plenty of time. Don’t worry about it.

Noooooo, I don’t want to work!

Haruhi: Hmm, I guess you don't have any work skills.

Maybe this has Haruhi’s mind off whatever was making her look gloomy. She was enthusiastically trying to think of possible job choices for me.

No work skills?

Maybe I should suggest something before she decides some ridiculous job for me.

Clothing Store

Looks like I’ll have to rely on Kanata-san for help. If I'm lucky all I’ll be really doing is folding clothes. How hard can it be?

Alan: Haruhi, can I make a suggestion?

Haruhi: ?

Alan: I think I have a place where I’d like to work at.

Haruhi: Is that so?

Alan: What? You sound like you knew I was going to complain about working.

Haruhi: Of course, you are one of those people right? You know, really carefree lazy ones. I could tell easily from seeing you at class today.

I have no argument.

  • Self esteem points -100%*

Haruhi: But you really want to work? I was hoping you would resist a bit. It’s no fun if you want to work willingly, but then, you would get fired after few hours anyways so I was thinking hard about what job would suit you.

Alan: I have been underestimated...

Haruhi: Pretty much. You know why they make all those homeless shelters? Because of people like you who are too lazy to work in the society. If all of those homeless people got up and started working hard, all those money used to build the homeless shelters can be used for something more meaningful, like hospitals or roads.

Oh please, I was fine sleeping on that bench anyway, but it's Haruhi telling me this and she's the last person I want to admit defeat to.

Alan: Follow me!

This time, I grab Haruhi’s arm for a change and start to run towards Kanata-san’s shop.

Haruhi: He-hey! Wait.

Kanata's Shop

Alan: "Kanata-san!!"

Kanata: *Suprised* "Ara? Alan –kun?"

Alan: "Let me work here!"

Kanata: "... huh?"

Kanata-san's gaze turns to Haruhi who's beside me then back to me again.

Kanata: "Well, I don’t mind letting you work since we do actually need help these times."

Kanata: "But this is too sudden... Why do you want to work so suddenly?"

Alan: "See Haruhi? I CAN work."

Unexpectedly, Haruhi’s expression wasn’t that I was expecting.

Instead, she wore ‘just as planned’ expression.

Ah crap, provoking me like that, this was her plan from the start. I can’t really walk out on Kanata-san now after asking so enthusiastically.

Ah...

Kanata-san seems to have caught on with what’s going on. I thought she was going to take my side, but apparently...

Kanata: "Ah, so that’s why, well I’ll be seeing you after school starting tomorrow ok?"

Wahh what do I do now?

Haruhi: "Thank you very much."

Haruhi politely bows then takes her leave.

Kanata: "Haha she really got you there. Well, you better follow her."

Alan: "Urgh..."

Haruhi's Middle School

It’s already dark. We continued walking for a while.

Haruhi: “Hey Alan, follow me.”

She walked off without giving me a chance to speak. We walked further and further from the main area and away from Haruhi’s house.

Alan: "Hey Haruhi, just where are we going anyway? I’m getting hungry, let’s go back home."

She ignores my question and keeps walking.

Alan: Hey Haruhi, just where is this place?

She said nothing as she climbed onto the wall and proceeded to sit on it.

Haruhi: "Come up here Alan."

I do not really have a reason to say no, so I did just that.

Haruhi: "Did you know? Years ago an event happened here."

Alan: "Oh? What sort of event?"

Haruhi: "One night, someone broke into the school and drew strange patterns on that field in front of us, causing a ruckus the next day."

Sounds just like the stuff you would do Haruhi.

Alan: "What happened then?"

Haruhi: "The culprit was caught. She was a student of this school. The principal reprimanded her, but didn’t really give her any punishment or sort."

Alan: "Why are you telling me this anyway?"

Haruhi: "Because I want to ask you, why do you think she did it?"

  • Prank
  • A Giant Tanzaku

Prank

Alan: "Probably a prank, I guess."

Haruhi: "Hmm... is that so..."

Haruhi said that, and did not spoke anymore. She then hopped off the wall and started walking back towards the house. As I didn’t know the way back on my own, I followed.

A Giant Tanzaku

Alan: "I bet it's something similar to the wishes we hung today. Even if it's a prank it's going a bit too far. She probably had some good reason."

Haurhi stared out into the distance. *HARUHI +1*

She didn’t reply and hopped off the wall and started walking back towards the house. As I didn’t know the way back on my own, I followed.

Way Back Home

Alan: "This is some shortcut, Haruhi."

Alan: "Why do we have to walk through this area? Its pitch dark and I can’t see anything. Are we even going the right way?"

Haruhi: "Oh, quit whining, I know this area inside out."

It feels like as if something scary is going to pop out. Well, if something actually does come out I’ll make a run for it while it devours Haruhi.

Haruhi goes on ahead of me, with her god-like speed.

...wait, did I just really think that?

Finally, I see a light ahead!

I arrive under a streetlight. However, Haruhi is nowhere to be seen.

Hey, I know this area, if you follow the road up here it’s Haruhi’s house.

  • Wait for Haruhi
  • Go straight to Haruhi’s house
  • Go back and look for Haruhi.

Wait for Haruhi

I’ll wait for a while.

She’s still not here. Maybe something happened? Or did she leave me behind and go home all on her own?

What should I do?

  • Go straight to Haruhi’s house
  • Go back and look for Haruhi.

Go Straight to Haruhi’s house

That Haruhi told me she was going on first which gives me a very good feeling she's hiding somewhere waiting to get a good jump out of me. Nevertheless, maybe I should head back to her house first.

Thinking to myself, I traced my steps as best as I could back to her house.

---

I've been running for a while now, yet I still can’t seem to find Haruhi’s house yet. I’m starting to wonder if I’m trapped in an endless loop. I picked up my pace.

Faster.

Faster.

Faster.

And faster.

Until I’ve started running.

This is strange, I've been passing that building for the last half hour! Am I really trapped in an endless dimensional loop?! What’s more, why haven't I asked for directions?! Wait... Where did all the people go?! Okay, whoever’s doing this, it’s not funny anymore! Stop it!

Alan: “Damn it, damn it, damn it, damn it! Make it stop!”

Shouting as I ran, I made a sharp turn at the next corner.

“Ouch!” I heard someone, a girl, exclaimed in pain as I got blown back by the sudden blockade.

I have no idea how fast was I running, but I’m pretty sure I was running really fast, as I landed on my butt a couple of meters away from the obstacle.

Kyon: “Watch where you’re going!” this time I heard a male voice speaking.

Alan: “I’m very sorry, I should've ran a bit slower” I apologized as I stood up brushing the dust off my pants.

Kyon: “…Alan? Is that you?”

Mikuru: “Ah, it really is you, Alan-kun.”

Alan: “Eh?”

I searched around at where the two voices came from, a bit disoriented from the impact. My vision recovering only to find Asahina-sempai and Kyon standing in front of me. “

Alan: "Sorry for bumping into you Asahina-sempai, I got lost looking for Haruhi's house”

Kyon... What are you doing alone with Asahina-sempai in this deserted part of town? Alone?! Something’s fishy; I think I better ask them about it.

Alan: “By the way, what are you two doing here together?”

Kyon: “Eh, nothing really, I just happened to meet Asahina-san, who happened to be going in the same direction as I am, so we just decided to walk together.”

Asahina-sempai started to fidget and looked down, and Kyon looking like he'd love to be talking about anything other than this. Both looking anxious and avoiding my droning stare.

I avoided her gorgeous eyes until my eyes fell onto her uniform, all dirtied up from the collision.

Something wasn't right. Her clothes were dirtied with grass stains and patches of dirt. No dirt or grass of the side of this road, and no matter how she fell it would be impossible to get dirt on her clothes the way it was stained. She was completely immaculate after the welcome party.

Kyon: "Er, Alan..."

I looked up to the sight of a slightly irritated Kyon, who i believe was also staring at Asahina-San. The uncomfortable, fidgeting body of the red faced Asahina-san. As I realized I was my gaze looked as though I was coveting her graceful figure. I turned quickly, savoring that embarrassed look (Huh? What am I thinking?!). Then paused and hoped that the atmosphere would return to speaking conditions.

Alan: "I need to get back to Haruhi’s house quickly, or else she’ll sentence me to another painful punishment…Which reminds me, do any of you know which way to her house? I can’t seem to remember or find it at all.”

Kyon: “She lives in the about same direction as I do but I don't know exactly where it is. Since you're the one staying over you should be the one who knows where it is.”

Mikuru: “Suzumiya-san had never mentioned her house to us.”

Alan: “Is that so? Sigh, I guess I’ll just have to search myself then. I better get going too, I bet Haruhi’s already thought up several punishments by now,so see you two tomorrow at school then,”

I said my goodbyes and ran off.

Miraculously, after some fifteen minutes of searching, I manage to find what looks like Haruhi's house. As I approach the building, a spooky voice appears from behind.

???: "Aaaaalaannn..."

Please, please, please, let it be a ghost, monster, or whatever, if God, Buddha, or whoever can hear this...

I turn around to find myself facing the very angry face of my housemate.

Haruhi: "LATE! PENALTY!"

Go Back and Look for Haruhi

I’m going to go back. Something might have happened to her.

Ugh, I can’t see again. Just where did she go?

I bump into something and fall on my back.

Alan: "Ouuuchh..."

Haruhi: "Alan?"

Haruhi: "There you were! Where did you go? Shortcut is that way. I came back all the way to look for you!"

Alan: "Well, it’s kind of hard to tell where you are going when it’s this dark."

Seriously, do you have night vision or something?

Haruhi: "Sigh, it can’t be helped. Here hold onto my hand."
