A character that Alan meets after being attacked by Shana when she mistakened him for a Tomogara. He is the main hero of "Shakugan no Shana" and an average high school student, except for the fact that he is a copy of a dead person, and a Mystes (think of a monster carrying a rare item. He tries his best to help others in the naive fashion of all decent main characters.
Having a treasure known as the Reiji Maigo (零時迷子, "Midnight Lost Child")within his body grants him the ability to renew his Power of Existence, which prevents him from disappearing from the memories of others and losing his life in the process. Unlike the basic Torch (copy of the dead), he won't disappear from reality in weeks, and will be able to live a normal life-span, as long as he does not drain all of his power before midnight.
Yuji Sakai has yet to be voiced by a Voice Actor.
Character Info
A Torch and a Mystes, Yuji contains the Reiji Maigo which acts like a uber battery, restoring his powers to full every midnight(hence the name). Even when ignorant of his special ability to live as a Torch (think magical temporary spirit replacement for people devoured by Tomogara), he put a optimistic, and slightly dangerous view on life. Even when he believed he was slated to perish as a Torch, Yuji took the information in a stride after the initial shock, and did not seem too disturbed or melancholy with the idea that everyone would simply forget about him, accepting this. Rather, his acts of heroism, demonstrated often in the series, is justified by his belief that even if his existence would one day disappear, his sacrifice would be proof that he had once lived.
Yuji is a kind person who is willing to sacrifice himself for others. This is somewhat a point of jealousy for Shana when some of those Yuji helps are female. Regardless of the person, Yuji will attempt to help them. This was a point of confusion and annoyance to Shana upon their first meeting, as Torches from Shana's experience normally possessed selfish last ambitions. However, it was this quality of Yuji that Shana found attractive, starting a rough-and-tumble romance with a kind but blockheaded Torch and a Flame Haze.
